Student Success Programs

Help students succeed in and out of the classroom

NYC students need your support to inspire, engage, and most importantly, help close the education gap.

Our Students Success programs work with grades 3-8 in low-income NYC neighborhoods to support their educational and emotional development.

 

Get Started

  1.  Update your Interests to include Childrens Support & Enrichment and Childrens Education to join our mailing list
  2. Register for an upcoming required training session.

As a volunteer, you will:
 

  • Guide a small group of students to succeed in and out of the classroom through implementing lesson plans, coaching them through problem solving, and helping them feel safe to make mistakes and learn from them.
  • Volunteer for a single semester or full school year of sessions
    • 12-14 weekly sessions per semester
      • Fall: November - February
      • Spring: mid-March - mid-June
  • Sessions run for 1 hour and 15 minutes, generally on weekdays during afterschool hours between 3pm - 6pm
  • 3 planned absences allowed per semester
  • Attend a 1.5 hour in-person workshop

📖 English Language Learners (ELL)

Inspire imagination and foster a love for reading with English language learning in elementary school students in K through 5th grade.
 
Work with students one-on-one or in small groups to help strengthen their English language literacy and fundamental reading skills through literacy games and reading books.
 
  • Spanish speaking ability helpful, though not required

❤️ Social Emotional Learning  (SEL)

Engage students in their journey to becoming more productive, self-aware, and socially-aware individuals in and out of the classroom.

Work with 3rd grade students in small groups to increase their competence in core social-emotional learning skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making through SEL curriculum and activities.

✍️ English Language Activities (ELA)

 
Support students in becoming more effective English readers and writers through 1-on-1 or small group tutoring sessions.

Work with students’ needs by using a thoughtful combination of the following approaches: utilizing Common Core-aligned ELA Workbooks, providing ELA homework help, and creating student-informed lesson plans on a need-by-need basis.

🧮 Math Tutoring

 
Support students in strengthening their math skills through 1-on-1 or small group tutoring sessions.

Work with students' needs by using a thoughtful combination of the following approaches: utilizing Common Core aligned math workbooks, providing math homework help, and creating student-informed lesson plans on a need-by-need basis.
